Hihihi *snickers* looks like we've got a new dysfunctional couple coming along :p well they've been at it for a while but you know :p hopefully Emilio will get off his high horse and make it clear he actually wants Carhart for more than just sex? Or maybe he isn't emotionally capable of it yet, although if Hsin and Boyd can work their issues out, I don't see why our 2 elder love birds can't. I feel like the old meddling next door grandma right now lol anyways, it's freaky that they may be toying with Hsin's body. Fuck I hope that doesn't turn out too badly... Stupid, manipulative Agency... *grumbles*

I'm absolutely thrilled about Carhart/Emilio, oh my god! I know there are so many gay relationships in this story these days, but it makes such good reading I'm not gonna get annoyed by it. In a way it makes sense that in such an environment as The Agency love relationships are more easily born out of circumstances, and gender might sometimes lose its importance.
Anyway, at the moment I'm actually more interested in Carhart/Emilio (so evil to find Emilio hurt like a kicked puppy amusing...) than I am about Sin/Boyd, although the latter getting back together makes my heart melt. But Sin really can't say those words can he.. About Carhart.. not sure if he's actually sharing Emilio's feelings at all, but I still love the whole situation because it brings something new out of Emilio.

Oh good grief, I am soooo mad at myself right now!!
I've gotten a couple of months behind thanks to a teething newborn *eye roll*. So I finally got a chance to get back here & start catching up. Was nursing the kiddo, reading Cause/Effect... I put her down to sleep & lo and behold, she goes to sleep! So I say, hoorah, and go to take a shower. Get out, so fresh & so clean, anxious to get back to my laptop and keep reading the story.
And what happens?? I start reading Rhapsody. Only I don't know it. And all of the sudden I go from reading about Boyd & Emilio's plan to reading about Sin & Boyd jumping off a building and fucking against a tree. So I'm thinking... ok.... what is this, a dream sequence?? I finally get to the end of the chapter (HOORAY!!!! THEY'RE BACK TOGETHER!!!) and go to click to go to the next chapter, only I realize I can't click because I somehow ended up at chapter 21.
AGH, I'm so mad at myself!! Totally ruined all the awesome building suspense & sexual tension in the pool and in China in the other chapters.
Me: -1,000,000,000,000,000 points
All the fantastic new chapters: +infinity points!
Can't wait until next weekend & some updates.

The tension up to this point was agonizing and painful at times, but it was definitely worth it after reading this chapter. Please, no more break-ups between the two? Pretty please? Thank you for updating and writing this wonderful story. I can't wait to read the next chapter. Take care and have fun writing!

After how you guys left off in the previous set of interludes, I was hoping for some more Sin/Boyd alone time… even if only skirting along the edge of whatever type of relationship Sin (in particular) hopes to pursue. Well, I think it’s safe to say I should have known better, that particular hope/delusion got shot straight to Hell pretty quick… thanks, by the way.
There are a few chapters in both your stories and the sides that encompass “In the Company of Shadows” that I don’t really care to go back and revisit – ever – certainly not for enjoyment’s sake. “Marshal’s Orders” is one of them. So, in order to review it, let’s just say it is extremely painful to have to even skim back through it in order to comment on points of interest (using the term loosely). I don’t get great joy out of reading about someone’s derogation. And this, although well written as all your work is, was beyond horrible from the standpoint of caring for a character’s wellbeing and watching as his world continued to fall apart bit by nasty bit. So, in that respect, the chapter worked. You put Boyd in his place – right where his egg donor wanted him. It also spurs me on to root even more for both Sin and Boyd to get the hell out of Dodge before it’s too late. Unfortunately, it might be already.
It really shouldn’t have been surprising that The Egg Donor would immediately start collecting on Boyd’s offer “to do anything” for her in order to keep Sin safe. If Boyd’s soul had ever been in jeopardy before, well, handed to the Devil on a silver platter as Boyd did, boy, is he screwed now. Only the one who he sacrificed himself for can save him now. It also shouldn’t have been surprising the nature of the first mission she would handpick for him. It was almost as if the target had been hired by her (or the Agency as a whole) to teach Boyd a lesson… (and not a Lesson in Love either) which is a horrific thought, indeed. But, then again, these whack-jobs torture their own. I wouldn’t put it passed them at all. When they start passing out the Kool-Aid in little paper cups en masse with a smile… run.
Well, on second thought, I don’t really think much else needs to be said about Boyd’s first official Valentine mission (especially in gory detail) other than he was set up to fail. Once again, even though he managed to plant the listening devices per instructions, which, by the way was the main objective, the rest of the mission was a bust according to Satan. To be used and abused, taped while doing so, and then paraded around the compound on purpose disheveled and smelling of sex and piss… the target did a fine enough job of subjugating and demeaning Boyd, Satan’s hand in it was just the icing on the cake… as well as the big, nasty carving knife that stabbed into it and sliced off the first big chunk.
Anything with Carhart and Vega Sr. is just delicious. And… a much needed touch of lightheartedness after the travesty that preceded it.
I get a kick out of how Emilio refers to Sin all the time as “my boy”… likes he’s talking about a prepubescent kid or something. It just strikes me as cute and dare I say… affectionate. I think it is another little chink in the armor surrounding his heart when it comes to his “boy”. And for Emilio to be ragging on Carhart about being “in love” with HIS boy… oh, God… too funny for words! And, I do believe the green monster otherwise known as Jealousy was in the house there for a few seconds… not necessarily because Carhart was waxing poetic about how skilled and awesome Sin’s fighting skills are… but that Carhart dared to say he loved Sin like a son. Perhaps that Sin’s father figure while Emilio had “died” had been Carhart had something to do with that. Regardless, I’m sure that didn’t go over very well in Emilio Vega’s mind.
Interesting was Emilio’s take on the Agency… and how much he really missed it. I suppose it takes a certain personality to enjoy that line of work, that there are people out there who really get off on the danger and intrigue. It’s just hard for me to imagine a person like Emilio working for anyone and doing so willingly… one would always wonder what the catch was… what was in it for him… when would he turn.
If Connors was so bad and his replacement only considered mildly “annoying”, I wonder how Vega Sr. would view Vivienne if he knew how she treats her own spawn… wasn’t Emilio voted Worst Father of the Year several years in a row running? Satan far surpassed his record in the Mother category. Emilio might have been cruel in some ways to his boy but I think there was always the underlining aspect of it that he was at least trying, doing the best he could with what he had, doing what was best for Sin, preparing his (mentally unstable) son for life in the big world. With Satan, there was no compassion – not even feigned – only disgust, disappointment, and shame that she had produced something so pathetic. I don’t know what’s worse… the physical or the emotional torture Boyd has been subjected to by or through her hands. I wonder if Boyd ever regrets telling Sin to keep his mother safe back when the compound had been underseige.
God, please tell me there is something at least remotely happy coming up in the next installment that doesn’t make me want to jump from the nearest bridge…
Pretty please?
