Wow.
Okay, so there's like a gazillion ways this could go wrong, but you've defied every one of them. Not only is this witty, clever, amusing, intriguing, but you manage to do it in 1st person POV and present tense! Kudos to you, my friend!
I don't read fics all that often, I admit. Not many fics interest me, but every now and then one will catch my eye. Yours did! So I read the first paragraph this morning, thought it looked fun, so I bookmarked it and came back to it tonight. I'm so glad I did. Your characters lives seem so set and natural, but not so set in stone that the reader would feel like an awkward outsider. This fic feels carefully planned out, not necessarily plot-wise, but details-wise. Really, I can't praise you enough for your fascinating writing style.
As for Liam; I. Love. Him. He's kinda eccentric and quirky with this strangely cute destructive edge. I love his attitude, and you paint it perfectly with his descriptive actions. Even Jack seems cool - Jacks often do - but at this point all my interest is drawn squarely to Liam, and a bit to that cop he's smitten with.
