i really like how this is going
the characters are great, (i LOVE how neurotic Theo is). so don't even worry about the third person thing making it hard to for them to be likeable (i think you'd have to try really really hard to make one of your characters not likeable, and even then it probably wouldn't work)
the only thing is, even though it's all in third person, sometimes you switch perspectives between characters too quickly
so maybe like do the asterisks thing before it flips to Merrick's perspective?
but otherwise then that, Better Now is really really good
i cant wait for more

I'm not quite sure what to make of these characters. Theo obviously has some issues, but he just wants people to like him. Merrick comes off as an asshole, but we don't really know anything about his past. Your characters are always so fun and interesting; I envy your ability to make these awesome characters.

I wouldn't say writing in third person is inherently more difficult, rather it is different. But I think it's a good thing to try out different writing styles and points of view. Otherwise it gets kind of boring. And this story is wonderful, as usual. It does not seem stiff, by the way. I can't wait to see where it leads.

I like it. You handle third person just fine. I prefer it to first person where the reader can get stuck in a person's head that they might not like. (I don't feel that way about your stories! I was thinking of Anita Blake! Pfft. I'm prolly making enemies with that line). And who hasn't had that horrible feeling that you really should say *something*, but anything that comes to mind sounds so stupid and wrong? God, I hate that. I don't mind you adding to your workload as long as you are don't over extend yourself and drop a story. I always like your work; it is consistently well written, realistic and earnest. I would hate to see something dropped. Keep this going!

I think this is off to a good start. In my opinion, you actually do third person quite well. Theo is a real cutie!
