Adrian seems a bit off. I think Sean should keep a closer eye on him.

What exactly is the suicide rate in carriers? I want to know if Ashby died. If he didn't he would probably be sent to the finger factory right? I love Caddie and Phideas's bright outlook on life. This is not like Jesse who was quite the cynic. And that sick man trying to find out about Caddie! Ugh! Sean is not so bad.

And when indeed is consent not necessary!
I am surprised to find that Cadmus does not recognize what the world he lives in is. Why is he so clueless? He talked to his father about the necessary things to protect himself. Like never being in company of strange men and only those you want to marry. He seems like an outsider. The situation of the carriers has been such that forced "consent" is the norm and Caddy does not know any other thing. To him maybe being raped is almost like a rite of passage and not necessarily something reviled only that it will get you pregnant and married to the wrong man, but 60% of those carriers of course end up being happy. Why worry? He is unattached with reality. Why would he want to kill himself, he is of course a carrier? Pssh

I truly love how fast you update. I hadn't been on here for a week and then bam! Four new chapters. I really love your stories, November and this one, August. They're completely unique and so enthralling. This is the reason why I read originals. :)

Now that is a new angle. Sean is in love with our dear Adrian. Their friendship was a surprise to me. Why would he rape Adrian if they were friends? Adrian said 'he won' what did he win? Adrian?
I thought Cadmus was not happy being a carrier. Why is he want to be one now? But I suppose everyone wants friends. What is his schooling about? So Phideas is still being allowed to pursue his career?

Your social commentary just takes my breath away. I don't know if what I am reading is what you are hoping for us to see, but the volumes this speaks to me about the world we live in and where it could be always makes my eyes water. This may sound silly, but I see this as not a future of men but a future of what could happen to women; but like in real life, it's more bold and tragic when you use male subjects. I'm not implying you are trying to fight for women's rights, but as a huge feminist a can't help but remember a famous quote about abortion, "If men could get pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament." This story, no matter the situation, never leaves me with a feeling of warm fuzzies (except for Jesse's...sorta) when it comes to any of the situations and relationships. Just like now, why should Adian be happy? And why should rape ever be necessary? To prove a point? I'm just so impressed with your tale because it poses questions that I ask myself when I think about gender biased legislation... I mean, people would think you were crazy and this story paranoia if you made all the carriers females to begin with. They would call you sick and obsessed with smut and ignore the possible truths. Making all the victims and subsequent villains male forces people to keep paying attention, because for whatever reason, men demand more.

I'm sorry if this was your worse nightmare, making a story where people found an agenda where there isn't one, and I'm not accusing you for fighting on any side! But as a reader, and huge feminist, I wanted to let you know what this story says to me. The moment our government or ourselves, become obsessed with a person's ability to procreate, only trouble can ensue.
