ohhh i loved the insight into the possible carrier legislation!!! and this alternate society that Sean and Adrian belong to fascinate me! is it like how we have Mormon sects, or Quaker or Amish sects in the U.S.?? haha Though I'm guessing nothing quite compares to your universe lol

Dothan is an insular, religious community, within which Sean and Adrian were both raised. The particular commune in which they grew up is called Woodacre.
The Revivalists are a group within Dothan.
A skinburn is the same thing that Yavisk (remember him?) used on Havar back in November. Only Yavisk's was a slightly more primitive version; pain technology has advanced since then. It's a black strip of latex with a metal disk in the middle, sort of like a dungeon version of those things they give you for seasickness. Anyway, the metal touches your skin, and makes you feel, approximately, like your skin's been set on fire. Hence: skinburn. Kosin's is controllable - he turns it down when he speaks to Phidias. Yavisk's was not, so he just touched the disk to Havar's skin for a moment, to stun or punish him.
It's been more than five years since November.
There is not yet any way to predict who will change, or when they will. However, the vast majority of changes tend to occur between the onset of puberty and age 28, in men who have never fathered a child, and have no other carriers in their immediate families.
When you change, you wake up one morning with a stomachache. Then it doesn't go away, and then your testicles begin to itch, then hurt. Over the next few days, they retract, then shrink and disappear completely; the process is a sort of self-phagocytosis. The penis may diminish, but does not vanish. During the period of retraction, the internal female structure has already begun to form; this is the part of the change that is the most physiologically stressful, and the phase at which many carriers require hospitalization. This is the phase that Tiger was in when Miljan met him on the mountain, and took him back to the house for medical care. After the testicles have completely eliminated, the external female structures (i.e. vagina/labia) begin to form in their place. Sometimes, at this point, bleeding may occur, but this is not the case with all carriers.
After development has completed fully, sex can be undertaken as normal with the female structure. The penis, in most cases, remains functional. Gestation and birth continue as expected, although carrier births may more frequently require episiotomies, and complications are more common than with traditional female births. Menstruation occurs, but is limited to a maximum of two or three days.

I am now highly curious about these laws and Dothan. :o It kinda sounds like a militaristic version of the 10 commandments, like when all of the stuff first started happening, nearly all abandoned their god and everything went into Chaos; then like Hitler, someone showed up at the right time to bring "peace and order", and now they worship him or simply follow every rule he's laid down. Like the one person a carrier would want to go back in time a kill for setting the system up the way that it currently is.
:o And a revivalist movement? o.O; that can't possibly be good. Like they were slowly going toward more lenient rules, and then the Old People said that what was going on was bull sh*t and to being back to old laws. And now the young people like Sean are sucked into it.

Kabi - somehow you've made this extremely riveting. I like your writing style with the short scenes. I'm not sure why not as many people are reading this - I can only guess that it is too intelligent. But I'd really like to thank you for it - and encourage you to keep doing what you're doing. What the crap is going on with the Revivalists? Oh God, just make a chapter where you explain all these laws and politics. What is the Dothan, just an area or a political party. So it has been five years since November?
Whatever the Revivalists are, how can they be the majority still when they have a LOT more carriers, they don't need those strict laws anymore.
