Not starting off on the best foot are they? Kate wasn't too nice either but it makes her seem realistic that she isn't perfect and it makes sense she is kind of prickly given her childhood. Aunt Sophie seems nice. Good work. I'm looking forward to the next chapter.

Great beginning. I like Kate and Evan seems like a believable pain in the backside teenage boy although I'm sure he'll have hidden depths ;). I thought that line about Kate wanting to cry when she sees Evan's peacefulness becuase she felt so wound up all the time was so perceptive.
