I wouldn't pay too much attention to I_Plead_Obsession or whoever it is. While she does have some good points about grammar and the floaty-ness of the first chapter, there ARE honestly manymanymany other stories more poorly written than this. And really, for a first chapter it wasn't bad at all. No offense to her or anything, but unless she puts up a good story herself, I personally don't think she has the right to criticize another author about an "unedited" disclaimer. That's a little unnecessary. But more often than not, betas really do help keep a story clean. I hope I don't sound mean (or even critical myself) talking about her, I just didn't want you to become unnecessarily discouraged over her review.

Also, it's the author's right to ask for reviews to continue a story. If you don't get any feedback then it seems like no one cares for the fiction, so why bother with the extra work if you're not appreciated? Reviews boost morale and many times encourage faster updates.
