i'm so happy to see you updated this fic, and i know that you'd want a review so i shall give you an honest one. it was difficult for me to read the beginning of chapter 6. it was too painful, and i had to stop and take a break. the way Fen was treated.... made me sad and kind of angry. but i stuck it out and finished the chappie. i'm glad i did, and honestly all those crazy emotions that i got from reading this chapter was a good thing, because it shows that your work has such an amazing affect on the reader's mind. i am so thankful for your work and even if you lost one reader, there will be many more who agree with me. so thank you so much! i really liked reading this fic, especially this chapter. i'll be looking forward to many more! much love!

i don't think you needed to justify/point out why ethan is so 'messed in the head' because if other reader's can't figure it out themselves than they're probably not really reading your story. too many fics on aff. are soft-wannabe-angst pieces that are made so some guy can fuck a mentally damaged kid in hopes of 'saving' him. this one piece is so real, so strong and so good it's hard to take in all at once and THAT'S what makes this story so damn amazing. the struggle that each character faces is what makes them so defined and wonderful. the trials that they have to endure is what makes them strong and understanding. and the love that ethan and fen are developing ties everything together with perfection. ethan's character maybe hard to accept for some, but heck why would anyone want to read easy-going-boring storylines? so thank you, for giving aff. a story it should be proud to have in it's archives. i will wait patiently for your next update so do not rush, because perfection can only he achieved with detail and care. <3

I applaud writers that include real life tragedies in their plot, it makes the characters that much more human and real. Life itself is not made all happy endings and lollipops. I was once told that you have to cry a thousand tears before you can smile, and that is what Ethan is going through, he has lost his family, and had to survive years of abuse before he could be on his own. You just don’t get over that and be okay. And if that was not enough Ethan beat himself up with guilt and risked not only his own life but that of Fen as well. It was expected, he is wounded and needs time to heal, Ethan is not being cruel to Fen on purpose he is punishing himself for losing his family, in a way he feels responsible for not saving his family and blinded with so much grief he simply could not take it anymore. I believe the character did not feel he deserved to be loved and felt worthless, when someone gets to that point when they want to end their life, you can just imagine the kind of pain and horrific sadness that is consuming the person to the point of not being able to have rational thoughts. Was he being selfish, maybe but I’m sure it was not intentional. He is not perfect and I’m sure that Fen is far from perfect himself. I believe Ethan is indeed a gentle soul once he can get past his loss and guilt. Both main characters have a lot to talk about and work out, but first they have to survive whatever or whom is chasing Fen, and on that note what will happen to them? Fen was forced to use his power to save Ethan; won’t that alert them to them? I personally loved chapter 6, it was well written and let me see into Ethan’s heart, which is a little dark. But then I’m sure there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Good job, continue to tell your story the way your characters want you to, and if you lose a reader or two due to some harsh material you only end up gaining 3 or more new readers, because I am certainly recommending my friends to read your story as I’m sure others do the same. Sometimes when I’m down, I watch stupid comedy shows, and I also enjoy watching shows like Law & Order SVU, it might get me down but it’s still good entertainment. The same goes with your story, it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but you move on to something else. Variety is the spice of life and so is your story, I can’t wait to find out what kind of creature Fen is; oh I will just have to be patient to find out. But keep writing and I’ll keep reading and enjoying your work.

I’ve said a couple of times now that I really like your writing style, but you know what else I like about your stories? Your characterization. I’m a big fan of the h/c genre, but some (if not most) of the stories never keep track of reality. Not to be insensitive, but there’s a reason for that saying “don’t buy it if it’s broken.” Point of fact: people who have been traumatized, especially to the extent seen in the majority of h/c stories, are extremely difficult to get along with. Not to say that they don’t have ample justification for the way they act, but when someone’s on the defensive like that, they tend to be selfish and, more often than not, unstable. Most of the fics depict abuse victims as these poor little wounded doves just yearning for some love and affection and some big strong “knight on a charger” to come along and screw it better. While I know it’s only fan fiction, and therefore needs to be taken with a grain of salt, it does get a little eye roll-inducing sometimes. You are the first author on this site who tackles these issues head on and who dares to show the not-so-pretty-side of the “h” in h/c fics. Kudos to you for that. I love that you are not afraid to give your characters flaws – real, human ones; not just sugar coated little eccentricities in an effort to save them from being utter Mary-Sues. It makes it so much more endearing when they finally move ahead and get to the “c” part of the plot :P Overall I think you are shaping up to becoming my #1 favorite author on this site. Your plots are well thought out and easy to follow. You keep the tension going without becoming melodramatic and your characters are all believable, unique and oh-so-lovable – warts and all ;) I’m not going to ask you to update soon, but I will say that I’m eagerly awaiting the next instalment. Happy writing!

Oh wow. Right after Ethan ran into the bathroom, the saddest song started playing on iTunes, and I was reduced to tears.
I really liked this chapter, thank you so much!

this chapter really broke my heart. fen kept reminding me of an abused puppy the whole time. i demand fluff in the next chapter since you almost made me cry!
seriously though, that was good. i never read creature fics. as a matter of fact, i believe this would be the first one unless you count vampires and inuyasha fanfiction. i'll be on the lookout for your next update!

I wasn't going to read this because the first chapter was so sad, but I'm glad I did. Fen is an intriguing character and I love his interactions with Ethan (even though they BOTH seems a little clueless at times). This last chapter had me really worried but I'm glad Ethan and Fen made it through okay. I am wondering if the people who have been chasing them are going to be able to find them again after Fen using so much energy to help Ethan. Keep up the good work!

I can't believe Ethan was so selfish. I thought maybe he forgot at the time that if he died Fen did too, but no, when talking to his parents it was pretty obvious that he did know Fen would have died along with him and it was also obvious that he didn't seem to give a damn about that fact. Really, how selfish can you get, I know he was mad at Fen and wanted to be with his family, but that is no excuse to basically 'murder' him. I could like this story, but Ethan is too much of a bitch for me to enjoy it. I'm not telling you to change Ethan because he's your character and you can make him however you want.
You are an excellent writer, you have good grammar, your characters have distinct personalities, and the writing is fluent. Unfortunately for me, if there is one character I can't stand (Ethan) then I can't continue reading but I'm sure that doesn't matter because there are so many people who do love this story and will continue reading.
I don't consider this a flame, just an honest opinion with a reasoning behind it. I figure, you get so many 'Yea awesome story! Update soon!!!' reviews that maybe you would like to hear from the opposite side of the spectrum.
