Thanks for all the comments; it really inspires me to keep writing. In answer to some of your questions: there are nice guys ('studs', I think someone called them, and I kind of like that) out there. We'll meet one later, when we get more involved in Liam Beckman's (remember him? Jesse's counselor?) story. But part of what I wanted to show in November is that even nice guys - even one's own coworkers and colleagues and friends - can be influenced (read: conditioned) to be not-so-nice. Society is a very thin veil. I hope that didn't sound too soapboxy, but my work is meant to be a social commentary...and a lot of it is not all that made up.

Also, we'll learn more about stuff like Rowe House later...I want you guys to learn about stuff the way you would if you were there - in life, it's rare that someone sits you down and outlines the rules and expectations of whatever place you're in. Some stuff gets explained, of course, but you mostly pick up information by reference, context, and general awareness.

Nacht Kind's made the point that this is a lot like 50's politics on steroids, and it is. It's also a lot like 90's politics in small, rural areas of so-called "civilized" countries. It's also a lot like 2007 politics in a lot of places that a lot of people don't really think about. Just a random thought.

OK...enough political posturing. On a much lighter note, I really appreciate all the support! Thanks for reading!

It was Bookworm who gave me 'stud'. Thanks for that, I like the term.

The officers that we've seen thus far FAIL AT LIFE! I was hoping to go for a deeper, more objective assessment of this chapter, but dammit! I've said it before, and I'll say it again: it's like the repression of the fifties on steroids, but with the self-serving disregard more prevelant in some of the modern day populace. I can't imagine plotting something like that against an innocent person for my own selfish designs. I hope someone kicks one of the bastards in the groin!...or kneecap.....I'm not picky.....

Someone made the comment that all the males were jerks, or something akin, and I'd like to remind, the Carriers are males. They are simply able to carry and bare children, as well. However, I'm wanting to meet some decent(John Doe, unassuming, but good guys) to awesome(self explainitory) pure males, lest I give up hope.

Riveting, as usual.
